The Fishing Boats. Floating extension of the Fishing Museum
The diffusion task undertaken by the Fishing Museum is based on the recovery, conservation and study of maritime heritage as a whole. For this reason, it is committed to widening its scope of action by water through the preservation of the vessels ceded to the Museum and the launch of the "floating extension".
The possibility of getting on board into a public accessible boat is a challenge for the senses: the instability of a boat, the smell of a machine room, the impression of a small, distressing space, the perception of the seafloor or school of fish through a depth finder, a radio conversation, the touch of a fishing net ... these are sensory elements that bring people closer to boats and reinforce the Museum's discourse, making it more understandable and participatory.
La Gacela , the Estrella Polar, all of them owned by the City of Palamós, represent almost all of the fisheries that develop on our coast: trawling, purse seiners and minor arts or traditional fishing.
The boats are the setting of all kinds of educational activities and cultural visits. See our calendar of activities or educational program for students of kindergarten, primary and secondary school in the section of educational activities of the Fishing Museum.
